Childhood is a special time in a person’s life, a time when they experience new things, make different discoveries, and develop emotionally, mentally, and physically. Many of our childhood memories revolve around playing, exploring and learning about the world from testing our curiosities. Most parents nowadays didn’t have the advanced technology growing up that kids have now. With corded phones and three channels on the TV, these kids were left with their imagination to learn.

But times have changed. Technology has an ever growing presence in our society, and kids are learning to use this tool at an early age. Even the video of an infant flipping the pages of a magazine as they would an iPad shows that they are more used to the tech world than paper copies. And while many parents wish their children could grow up without technology being a part of their everyday lives, the times have certainly changed.

There are benefits to this, of course. Children are learning about technology and how to use it at an early age can help them develop better skills for the future. At Montessori School of Chantilly, we teach our students with computers and help them get a better understanding of technology. We teach our students hands-on computer exercises and supply them with personal computers during these lessons. Our goal is to help our students excel and learn as many things as possible to help their future.

In this blog, we are going to talk about the benefits of your children learning how to use technology and how it can help them. Read on to learn more!

Access To Information

While your youngsters may not be doing extensive research about how caterpillars become butterflies, they do have access to that information. Technology gives us the ability to learn just about anything in the matter of seconds, and if your children learn how to best use that to their advantage they can expand their knowledge about many different subjects. Kids are able to find what they need to succeed and can learn and explore their curiosities easily. This allows your kids to find the answers quicker, learn more about different subjects, and continue exploring their interests.

Learning Skills Through Apps

Not only can you and your children do research on the topics that interest them, but apps are another great way to teach your children through technology. Tablets and smartphone can suddenly become a great tool for your kids, helping them learn and stay entertained throughout the day. Apps that help with letters and numbers, shapes, colors, matching, and more are available for your kiddos and can help them learn anywhere you go! Familyeducation® has a list of some of the best educational apps that can teach your kids many different things, check them out and download them for your kids. They can teach your children everything from the letters and their sounds to different shapes. These fun games are actually more educational than you may think.

Hand-Eye Coordination

According to DigiParenthood, exposing your young children to technology can also help them develop different skills. Hand-eye coordination is one of those skills. Tablets, smartphones, and even computers can help your kids hand-eye coordination. Interacting by touching the screen or using a mouse accomplish a task can help them with their fine motor skills and coordination, making technology easier to use as they age.

Encourages Independent Learning

Different games and apps that are available for your children on tablets and smartphones can help to encourage your kids to learn more independently. These apps are fun for them, allowing them to view it as a game rather than learning. Your kids may ask to play these educational games while grocery shopping, while waiting for their food at a restaurant, or even after dinner rather than watching TV. This will teach your children that learning can be fun and encourage them to start working independently, which can help them throughout their future school years. But it also teaches your students to stay curious. Different apps can teach them about the ocean, space, or different countries, giving them facts and feeding their curiosities. As they learn through apps and other forms of technology, they will be able to explore more interests.

While we may not like our kids playing video games non-stop or watching reruns of Spongebob, there are different ways to use technology that can be beneficial to your kids. These are a few of the many ways that technology can benefit your children and their education. In our next blog we will discuss other benefits as well as how to properly implement technology into your child’s life in the most beneficial way.
